Woodcuts 2018 – Passage of time
These works are a response to the plight of the Pohutukawa tree and the threat of ‘tools” destroying these young plants and mature trees. As the work developed, these simplified into overlays of colour and movement – a single passing of time.
These woodcuts were a return to the Ukiyo-e style of woodcut
I worked with Rikio Takahashi while studying in Japan, and his contemporary approach to the traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e style woodcut has influenced my approach.
