Our Land — Landscape and Recreation, 1990/1991
The inspiration for “Our Land” series came after Gayle's return from her second study trip in Japan where she worked with Haiku artist and print maker Iwani Reika. In these works she visually explores the human presence in the natural environment. She contrasts our physical insignificance with the more dominant land forms and emphasizes our desire to integrate and survive within. "Stepping off the plane in Auckland, the power, magic and mystery of the land seemed to dominate over the city. Upon my return to South Canterbury the landscape and recreation within this landscape became so very important".
